Northern Drilling semi-submersible lands Wintershall contract

John Fredriksen’s offshore investment vehicle Northern Drilling has won a drilling contract from Wintershall Norge for six wells at the Nova field commencing March 2020.

The contract has been awarded to a subsidiary of Seadrill, who will operate semi-submersible West Mira on Northern Drilling’s behalf.

The contract value is around $106m, and includes options for early commencement starting from the third quarter of 2019 as well as extension option which could see the rig contracted through to early 2022.

The rig was originally ordered by Fredriksen’s Seadrill at Hyundai Samho, but was cancelled in September 2015.

Northern Drilling has also applied for a transfer of listing from Oslo Axess to Oslo Børs which should be completed by next week if approved.
