Pan Ocean behind pricey tanker order at Hyundai Mipo

Pan Ocean has been named as the owner of high-priced product tanker newbuilds at a competitor yard in South Korea.

Brokers at Clarksons have identified the Harim Group-controlled diversified owner of more than 100 ships behind the order for a 50,000 dwt quartet at HD Hyundai Mipo.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, a holding entity overseeing the shipyards of South Korea’s conglomerate HD Hyundai, said in a stock exchange filing that the deal had been struck at $207m or $51.75m per ship, up from the $49.5m quoted by brokers for similar tonnage the first week in April.

The scrubber-fitted newbuilds will be delivered in 2026, starting in May through August.

In related product tanker news, Germany’s Leonhardt & Blumberg has been linked to a pair of scrubber-fitted and methanol-ready 49,500 dwt newbuilds at China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) for delivery in 2027. No price has been divulged.
