Papal visit stirs Manila congestion issues

Manila: With the Philippines getting whipped up into a frenzy ahead of next week’s visit by Pope Francis, the capital is being given a swift makeover with likely knock on consequences for shipping lines.

The government today appealed to the private sector to pull out as much cargo as possible from the Port of Manila before Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines next week, wary of possible congestion issues, something that has plagued the Philippine capital for months on end.

Moreover, roads around where the Pope will be staying during his Manila stay are to be closed which may well add to the port congestion issue. [06/01/15]
