Petrobras books Union Maritime duo

London-based Union Maritime has fixed two MR2 product tankers to Petrobras on period charters, brokers tell Splash.

Portman (47,400 dwt, built 1998) has been chartered for three years at a daily rate of $17,600, which commenced on Thursday.

Chiltern (45,800 dwt, built 1999) has been fixed on a two-year period charter for $17,750 per day, which also commenced yesterday.

The charter rates are a little healthier than London-based Alibra Shipping’s current estimates for MR2 tankers. The period market specialist today estimates rates of $16,250 per day for three-year contracts.

The two tankers were both acquired in July 2015 from Sovcomflot for $8.5m and Maersk Tankers for $10m respectively.
