PGE, Ørsted given 210 MW seabed area offshore Poland

PGE and Ørsted have been granted a new seabed area for the development of an offshore wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure has given permission for the two companies to develop up to 210 MW in the area designated 45.E.1 in the Baltic Sea.

The seabed area is neighbouring the Baltica 2 and 3 offshore wind developments which are currently under development by PGE and Ørsted. Baltica 2 and 3 will have a capacity of 2.5 GW.

The seabed area is about 17 square kilometres and is located approximately 32 kilometres from the shore.

“The capacity of the largest currently operating unit is over 1.2GW. In this context, Baltica 2+, as we jointly named the project in the new area, is small but very important,” Ørsted Offshore Poland managing director Agata Staniewska-Bolesta said.

Earlier this week, the European Investment Bank approved the EUR 1.4bn ($1.78bn) in-principle financing of the Baltica OWF project.
