Philippine roro ferry sinks, one confirmed dead

Manila: A roro ferry with around 60 people on board sank off the coast of Burias Island in the Philippines this morning around 5:30 a.m. with reports of 1 confirmed casualty and over 20 people still missing.

The vessel, the M/V Lady of Mount Carmel encountered trouble in what was later described as "fair weather" by the Captain, when then the vessel was caught "off balanced" and tilted on its side.

Reports said the ferry had 35 passengers and 22 crew on board. [14/06/13]
