Pioneer Tanker seals first newbuilds

Pioneer Tanker, one of five subsidiaries of Singapore’s Pioneer Logistics, is expanding its fleet with a newbuilding debut in China.

The company has commissioned Fujian Southeast Shipyard to build eight 18,500 dwt chemical tankers costing about $33m each.

The vessels are expected for delivery in 2026 and to meet the requirements of Tier II emission standards of the IMO and EEDI Phase III.

Brokers suggest the deal may have gone under the radar late last year but remained undisclosed so far.

Pioneer’s tanker unit is listed with 11 ships on the company’s website, with most of the units acquired from compatriot tanker owner Xihe Group in 2021.
