Product tanker aground off Kaohsiung

Taipei: A tanker ran aground 100 km off Kaohsiung yesterday, battered by Typhoon Matmo. Taiwan authorities manage to rescue four crew members from the foundering vessel. A team will head out today to check out the state of the Belize-registered Sheng Chang to inspect the damage and discuss plans to remove or dismantle it. It turns out the ship’s insurance has expired. The 1976-built, 2,890 dwt product tanker is owned by a Kaohsiung owner, Billion Star Marine Services, according to Maritime Connector.  [24/07/14]
