Qatar set to invest in more overseas gas ventures

Doha: It's expected that the new Qatari leadership will accelerate the implementation of a plan to separate Qatar Petroleum Company (QP) from the Department of Energy, to allow the largest producer of LNG in the world to expand at a faster pace abroad, in light of increasing competition from new producers.

The dominance of Qatar on the global market for liquefied natural gas (LNG) became threatened as new manufacturers in the United States, Australia and East Africa prepare to flood the market with new supplies in the next few years. Qatar will now look at overseas gas acquisitions to maintain its dominance.  [11/07/13]
