Russian jailed in Singapore over bunker bribes

Singapore: Antonov Sergey, the chief engineer of the Front Splendour, has been fined $23,400 and jailed for a fortnight for accepting a bribe and submitting false documents in the latest bunker bribery case to hit Singapore.

Investigations by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) found that the Front Splendour had ordered 2,700 metric tonnes of bunkers, but Sergey made a deal with Jason Choo Soo Beng, a cargo officer with bunker supplier Sea Hub Energy, to take 120 metric tonnes less, the Straits Times reported.

Sergey, Choo, Victor Loh Tuck Seng, an independent surveyor, and Lam Tat Fei, who allegedly helped Choo sell the 120 tonnes of fuel, were all arrested in May.  [23/08/13]
