Teekay Tankers confirms aframax acquisition from Teekay Offshore

Teekay Tankers has confirmed it purchased two aframax lightering tankers from Teekay Offshore in December for $80m en bloc, which will be deployed for operations in the US Gulf.

The vessels are the SPT Explorer and Navigator Spirit (both 106,000 dwt, built 2008).

Teekay Tankers says it has chartered-in a third lightering aframax tanker for a firm contract period of five years, commencing between February and March this year.

In December, Teekay Tankers secured a new $900m long-term debt facility with which to refinance 36 vessels in the company’s existing fleet.
