Seadrill semi-submersible terminated early by BP

Seadrill’s limited liability company Seadrill Partners has received an early termination notice from BP for 2011-built semi-submersible rig West Capricorn.

The rig has been on contract to BP in the Gulf of Mexico, and the termination is three months ahead of the scheduled end of the contract. West Capricorn was contracted at $543,000 per day through to late July 2019, but will now be concluded this month after the current well is completed and the unit demobilised.

Seadrill Partners says it will receive early termination payments over the original contract term and will actively market the rig for deepwater and mid-water opportunities.
