Singapore navy heading back to Somalia

Singapore: Singapore is dispatching its ninth mission to the Somalia area in March to fight piracy.

Senior Minister of State for Defence and Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing said: “Much of the shipping that transits our Singapore port passes through the Gulf. Hence, when piracy in the Gulf of Aden threatens the freedom of navigation and the safety of international shipping, it impacts Singapore's security and economic well-being directly. It is therefore in our interest to contribute to the international counter-piracy effort in the Gulf of Aden.”  [14/12/12]
