Singapore’s Cyan inks deal for WTIV newbuild at China Merchants Heavy

Fast-expanding offshore wind vessel pure-play Cyan Renewables is lining up another newbuild in China.

The Singapore-based company with a European base in Denmark has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) in Shenzhen with the aim of building a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV).

“As one of the largest shipyards in the world, CMHI has a strong track record in building offshore wind vessels, especially WTIVs. This memorandum of understanding opens up a new chapter for future partnerships,” said Keng Lin Lee, Group CEO of Cyan Renewables.

The deal marks Seraya Partners portfolio company’s second wind vessel newbuild in China following a letter of intent with Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry to build its first foundation installation vessel (FIV).

Cyan recently acquired its first ship in a deal with Belgium’s DEME. The 2021-built service operations vessel (SOV) Groenewind has been added for an undisclosed price. The deal included a long-term charter with turbine maker Siemens Gamesa for work offshore Belgium.
