Sinokor pockets $3m from swift cape play

In a rare asset play for Sinokor Merchant Marine, the Korean company has pocketed a swift $3m from a cape it picked up last November.

Sinokor bought the 2009-built, 170,000 dwt Genco Commodus four months ago from Genco for $19.5m. The ship was delivered in January and changed name to Enco Ommodus. It has now changed hands and name again – sold to China’s Agricore for $22.5m and rechristened ASL Loong

Agricore added another cape in November from Antwerp-based Bocimar, the 178,000 dwt, ASL Polaris, ex-Mineral Ningbo (built 2009), for some $20m.

Values for bulkers have been going from strength to strength this year, up across all ages and size categories with capesizes leading the way. According to data from Veson Nautical, values for 20-year-old capes of 180,000 dwt have shot up by 39.6 % to $19.35m so far this year, the highest levels since 2010.
