Sinokor tanker accused of ramming Philippine fishing vessel

The 110,000 dwt Pacific Anna, a tanker belonging to Sinokor, stands accused of ramming a fishing vessel in the north of the Philippines on Monday, an accident that led to the deaths of three local fishermen.

The Philippine Coast Guard has issued a report on the accident which took place early on Monday morning near near Scarborough Shoal.

Having interviewed the survivors from the wrecked shipping vessel, the coast guard checked nearby marine traffic and has laid the finger of suspicion on the Pacific Anna, a ship that is making its way from South Korea to Singapore, where port state control officers will board the ship and interview the crew.

As the accident happened near Scarborough Shoal, an area contested by both the Philippines and China, the accident sparked intense interest ahead of the coast guard’s findings.

Last month the Philippine coast guard removed a floating barrier placed by China’s coast guard to prevent Filipino fishing boats from entering a lagoon in the disputed shoal area in the South China Sea.
