Sinopacific scores offshore first

Shanghai: The busy times for Sinopacific Shipbuilding continue. The Simon Liang led firm has snatched Wang Xingru, the boss of Cosco Pacific, to become its new chief executive.

On top of that, the company has signed a contract with Shenzhen Huawei Offshore Shipping Transport, a subsidiary of Shanghai Salvage Company, to build five offshore vessels.

The vessels, all Sinopacific designs, are three anchor handlers and two platform supply vessels. They will be built at Sinopacific’s Zhejiang yard and will be delivered in 2016.

This marks the first time a domestic owner has ordered offshore vessels at Sinopacific. The new vessels will be used for deepwater oil exploration in the South China Sea.  [30/07/14]
