Sirius Shipping orders methanol-ready tankers

Swedish tanker owner Sirius Shipping has placed an order for up to four methanol-ready oil and chemical carriers in China.

The firm two 15,000 dwt ships will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou with the first delivery expected in 2026.

The 147-m-long vessel of the so-called Evolution 15K series has been designed by Kongsberg Maritime.

The newbuilds will come with methanol fuel tanks installed, sports hybrid battery and shore connection, and have an estimated EEDI 38% below the 2025 Phase III requirements.

The Donsö-based owner founded by the Backman family lists 13 ships in its fleet. No price has been revealed for the latest order that follows a pair of 7999 dwt chemical tankers ordered back in 2016 and delivered in 2018.
