Splash Extra: Who’s to blame for shipping’s slow innovation towards decarbonisation?

A talking point across multiple events at Singapore Maritime Week has been owners hitting out at shipyards for their failure to innovate and offer suitable solutions for the industry on its slow green path.

The issue forms the lead story in the April issue of Splash Extra, published today, with quotes from leading shipowners speaking at this week’s Maritime CEO Forum as well as the thoughts of well-known names such as maritime economist Dr Martin Stopford, futurist KD Adamson, and Nick Chubb from maritime innovation agency Thetius.

The debate was sparked by Wellington Koo, executive director of privately held Valles Steamship and chairman of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, who told Maritime CEO Forum delegates of his frustration at yards for their failure to offer new designs, something that then sparked much discussion throughout this week.
