Strikes return to Sokhna

Cairo: Subcontractors at Sokhna port on Egypt’s Red Sea are once again protesting, providing terminal operator DP World with further headaches. Subcontractors are demanding the same pay deal as employees. The partial strike has seen workers reduce the rate of container handling from 27 containers per hour to 10 per hour. The subcontractors have threatened to escalate the strike if their demands are not met today.  The port was hit by a month long strike two months ago.  [13/05/13]
