Tan Binh snaps up one more

One of the biggest takers of 2000-built Japanese handies in 2015 is back picking up more ships on the cheap. The active Vietnamese owner, Tan Binh, is being linked to the purchase of the Kanda-built, 32,000-dwt bulker Angel Jupiter from Sanko Steamship of Japan.

Numerous broker reports say the outfit paid $5m for the Angel Jupiter. An official from the chartering department of the company claimed he didn’t know about the acquisition when contacted by Splash.

In 2015 the company took over a handful of ships in the secondhand market taking many by surprise by its aggressive expansion. The company is said to take ships waiving inspections, comment one broker on a previous purchase. The privately own outfit also snapped to and three ships in 2013 and 2014.
