The Captain’s Table final to be televised live

The finals of the Captain’s Table – shipping’s very own Dragon’s Den – will be broadcast live from Hong Kong today from 3pm local time and carried on this site.

The maritime pitch competition will see six start-up finalists pitch their businesses to a panel of well-known judges at a televised event as one of the most high profile events taking place during Hong Kong Maritime Week.

The finalists are Quaychain, Marified, Tow-botics Systems, Portcast, Searoutes and Irwin Rotational Linings, a diverse range of companies presenting solutions ranging from optimisation of the bunker supply chain to refabrication of old pipes. $25,000 is on the table for the winner tomorrow.

The finalists have been in Hong Kong for the past month, going through a business model validation process as well as a two-day bootcamp.

Su Yin Anand, one of the creators of the Captain’s Table, told Splash earlier this year: “The industry has traditionally been late to adopt technology and is usually resistant to change. We hope that the Captain’s Table can help influence a change in mindset and focus minds, particularly in Hong Kong, on how the use of technology or other innovations can drive efficiencies and sustainability.”
