Transocean bags new deals for drillship pair

Swiss-based offshore driller Transocean has won one new contract and one extension for two of its drillships.

The first contract is for the Deepwater Invictus for 40 days in the US Gulf of Mexico on a $440,000 dayrate. The name of the client was left undisclosed. According to the latest fleet status report, the deal is already underway. The drillship also has a much longer deal lined up. The previously agreed contract with another unknown customer in Mexico will start in November 2025 and last until the same month in 2028.

As for the only extension, the Deepwater Skyros won a three-well extension in Angola with TotalEnergies at a rate of $400,000. The rate is a large hike from the current deal with the French company which has the drillship fixed in Angola from December 2022 until January next year on a $310,000 rate. The extension will run from January 2025 until June 2025.

In its fleet status report, Transocean also noted the recently announced deal for the Transocean Barents which is a minimum 540-day contract with OMV Petrom for work in the Romanian Black Sea at a dayrate of $465,000. The deal is supposed to start in January 2025 and last until June 2026.

According to the company, the aggregate incremental backlog associated with these fixtures is approximately $326m. As of February 14, 2024, the company’s total backlog is approximately $9bn.
