Transocean scores $251m semisub contract in the Romanian Black Sea

Swiss-based offshore drilling giant Transocean has landed a contract worth $251m with OMV Petrom for its semisub rig Transocean Barents.

The 2009-built rig has been fixed for work in the Romanian Black Sea for at least 540 days at $465,000 per day, excluding full compensation for mobilisation and a demobilisation fee.

The drilling campaign should start in the first quarter of 2025. The deal comes with two option periods attached at $480,000 per day plus an equal dayrate if the rig crosses its 540-day workscope.

The New York-listed Transocean owns or has partial ownership interests in and operates a fleet of 37 offshore drilling units, with one ultra-deepwater drillship under construction.
