Van Oord chosen for offshore wind project off Taiwan

Dutch offshore firm Van Oord has been chosen by Germany’s wpd as the preferred contractor for the Yunlin offshore wind project off Taiwan.

The project has a contract value of around €500m ($581m) and sees Van Oord responsible for the design, manufacturing and installation of eighty foundations.

Preparations for the wind farm starts immediately and Van Oord expects the financial close of the deal before the end of the year. Installation is scheduled to take place in 2020.

“In Asia, and especially in Taiwan, large investments are being made in offshore wind. The Yunlin project is a great opportunity for Van Oord to show our expertise outside Europe. We look forward to working with our local partners to enable the energy transition of Taiwan,” commented Pieter van Oord, CEO of Van Oord.
