Velesto scores $76m jackup rig extension with Carigali Hess

Offshore drilling unit of Malaysia’s Velesto Energy has secured a contract extension with Carigali Hess for the provision of jackup drilling rig.

The contract, valued at around $74m, will see Velesto support Carigali Hess’ drilling campaign for about 18 months.

The 2015-built rig Naga 8 will be utilised for work, starting in April 2024.

Carigali Hess is a joint venture between Petronas’ PCJDA and Hess Oil Company of Thailand engaged in gas production in Block A-18 of the joint development area administered by the Malaysian-Thailand Joint Authority.

The initial $131m three-year contract for the Naga 8 was awarded in 2019. It started in the second half of 2020 and included three extension options of six months each.
