Wuhan Newport Changhai Container Shipping to order feeder boxship pair

Wuhan Newport Changhai Container Shipping, a regional shipping service provider on Yangtze River, is looking to order two 1,100 teu feeder containerships to serve the growing demand for cargo transport from inland river ports to coastal ports.

The company has issue a notice asking domestic shipyards to join the tender for the project and it expects the project to be completed within one year.

The vessels are expected to be deployed on routes between Wuhan Port and Shanghai Port.

China’s river to sea shipping market has seen major progress in development with the support of the Ministry of Transport, with many ship operators looking at opening new services. This month, Hunan Ocean Container Lines also announced a plan to acquire two secondhand river containerships to serve routes connecting Shanghai.
