Golden Close drillship begins contract with Odfjell in Malaysia

Odfjell Drilling has commenced drilling a well in an undisclosed location in offshore Malaysia for Petronas Carigali, using Golden Close Maritime’s ultra-deepwater drillship Deepsea Metro I (pictured).

The drilling contract should span between 60 to 70 days for the one firm well, for which the contract is valued at $11m to $13m, Golden Close said.

The contract includes four more optional wells that, if exercised, could expand the contract duration to up to 245 days, worth around $46m in revenue.

Oslo-listed Golden Close Maritime is owned by Deep Sea Metro, which is a 60:40 joint venture between Metro Exploration and Odfjell Drilling, which manages the vessel.

Odfjell Drilling signed a conditional letter of award for the contract with Petronas in April.
