Jeppesen trumpets Malaysian sales

Kuala Lumpur: Jeppesen is now distributing official Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs) for Malaysia, adding to the company’s worldwide ENC portfolio and providing its commercial shipping customer base with another vital tool for safe navigation.

Jeppesen will distribute Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) ENCs for Malaysia from Jeppesen’s local partner Okenos. Included in this newly available ENC coverage is the Strait of Malacca, one of the most important commercial waterways in the world. As the main channel between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the Strait of Malacca links the major Asian economies of India, China, Japan and South Korea.

It is estimated that 25% of all oil transported by sea passes through the Strait of Malacca, notable for its shallow waters, narrow passages and heavy shipping traffic. By providing the world’s mariners with trusted ENCs from the Royal Malaysian Navy, Jeppesen is helping vessels transit these treacherous waters safely and is further establishing itself as a leading provider of navigation solutions to the world shipping industry.

“This is a significant development for Jeppesen, as well as for our shipping clientele around the world,” said Michael Bergmann, Jeppesen Maritime Industry Director for Affairs and Services. “We want to express our gratitude to the Malaysia Hydrographic Office and our local partner Okenos for working closely with us on this important partnership.” [14/12/12]
