Statoil’s latest gas find

Oslo: Statoil has found gas and is now drilling at wildcat well 6706/12-2, some 6 km west of the Aasta Hansteen field in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea.

Statoil’s preliminary estimates are that there are between 5bn and 9bn cu m of recoverable gas from the well.

Well 6706/12-2 was drilled by the Transocean Spitsbergen, which is now heading to drill wildcat well 6706/12-3 in production licence 602 near the Aasta Hansteen field, also operated by Statoil.
