Dubai: United Arab Shipping Company has sealed its much touted big order for 10 giant ships. Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries is the winning yard with UASC opting for five 18,800 teu ships and five 14,500 teu ships. At 18,800 teu, the UASC orders would be the largest in the world, surpassing Maersk’s 18,000 teu vessels in the water and the recently ordered series of 18,400 teu vessels by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL). It is expected that UASC will operate its new giant ships in strings with CSCL, a line it is increasingly close to. [29/08/13]
