US poised to open up Atlantic waters for drilling

US authorities are on the verge of announcing a plan to open up Atlantic waters to oil drilling, according to Bloomberg.

One of the key items in the agenda of President Donald Trump’s administration has been expanding America’s fuel production to remove dependency on foreign oil. It also jibes well with the Trump campaign’s pledges to cut away regulations.

With this reported plan the Department of the Interior (DOI) would produce a blueprint for the auctioning of oil and gas rights off the eastern seaboard. As such it would reverse the policy of President Barack Obama who had ruled out drilling there.

The rumoured new plan would apply to the years 2019-2024, and could be announced this week.
