Moscow: Prime minister Dmitry Medvedev is pushing for subsidies for Russian shipbuilding
At a workshop about Russia’s shipbuilding sector, Medvedev asked various ministries and departments to find a strategy to support the country’s shipbuilders.
In a press release, the government said they would encourage domestic shipbuilding development and that orders for marine equipment for offshore projects and newbuilds orders should be placed domestically.
The Ministry of Industry said that key players such as Lukoil, Gazprom, Novatek, Rosneft and other stakeholders should consider by May 27 to look at placing orders for offshore marine equipment and vessels at the Far Eastern Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair.
The Ministries of Finance, Economic Development, Industry and Energy should also finalise a feasibility assessment and investments for the construction of the long planned Zvezda shipbuilding complex in the Far East and submit proposals on funding from the National Welfare Fund.
There are other projects to support the domestic shipbuilding sector, as well as incentives for shipping companies to upgrade their fleet by placing more orders with local shipyards.
