Houston-based energy company Cheniere Energy has contracted Great Lakes Dredge and Dock (GLDD) to dredge two ship berths at its under-construction LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal in Corpus Christi, Texas.
GLDD, the largest provider of dredging services in the United States, announced the deal – which is actually with Cheniere subsidiary Corpus Christi Liquefaction – on Tuesday.
It is the latest successful bid for Oak Brook, Illinois-based GLDD, following a March deal to deepen the Port of Savannah, Georgia, in anticipation of bigger vessels coming through the expanded Panama Canal next year.
Cheniere, which is primarily involved in the LNG terminals business but also does oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico, received Department of Energy approval in May to export from its Corpus Christi terminal, a greenfield project.
It is also developing another liquefaction project, Sabine Pass Liquefaction located in Louisiana.
The US Energy Information Administration believes the country could become a net LNG exporter by 2017.
