Beks bags more tankers

Istanbul-based Beks Ship Management and Trading, one of last year’s most active Turkish owners in the secondhand market, shows no sign of slowing down.

Sources tell Splash that Turkish tycoon Ali Bekmezci has made several moves in the wet sector after starting the year adding his first newcastlemax, the 206,000 dwt Cape Maple. New additions to Beks’ tanker arm include the 2006-built 50,000 dwt MR tanker, Super Emerald, sold for just under $18m by Super-Eco Tankers.

Beks is also linked to a second 70,000 dwt same-aged tanker for about $17m. If confirmed it will join 17 more tankers in the Beks fleet.

Beks laid down the winning bid for 14 tanker deals last year, ballooning its fleet list that now counts 33 ships and is estimated to be worth $660m.
