Exxon announces another oil find offshore Guyana

ExxonMobil announced on Thursday that it has made another oil discovery offshore Guyana, the third such find on the Stabroek Block.

An Exxon affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Ltd, using the Stena Carron drillship, began drilling the Snoek well on February 22. It reached a total depth of 16,978 ft at 5,128ft depth of water by March 18.

Esso E&P Guyana is responsible for all Irving, Texas-based Exxon’s drilling in Guyanese waters, including previous finds at Liza and Payara.

It is the major partner, at 45% stake, in the Stabroek Block. Hess Guyana Exploration (at 30%) and Nexen Petroleum Guyana (25%) are the other partners.

After this latest Snoek success, the Stena Carron has moved back to the Liza area to drill the Liza-4 well.
