Helix scores well intervention contract in Nigeria

Houston-based offshore energy services player Helix Energy Solutions has signed a deepwater well intervention contract with Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil.

Under the contract, the New York-listed company will provide its DP3 riser-based semisubmersible well intervention vessel Q4000, a 10,000 intervention riser system, remotely operated vehicles, project management, and engineering services.

The project, located about 97 km offshore Nigeria in the Erha and Usan fields, in water depths ranging from 700 m to 1,500 m, is expected to start in September 2024 with the vessel set to be in Nigeria into 2025.

Earlier this month, Helix also won contract extensions for the Siem Helix 1 well intervention vessel and floating production unit Helix Producer I in Brazil and the US Gulf of Mexico, respectively.
