Petrofac pens services deal for ex-BW Offshore FPSO

UK offshore services firm Petrofac has been awarded a facilities management contract for the recently acquired Espoir Ivoirien FPSO by CNR International.

The initial three-year, multi-million-pound contract will see Petrofac’s Asset Solutions business providing integrated services for the floater.

The FPSO has an oil production capacity of 45,000 barrels per day. The production at the Espoir field off the Ivory Coast started in 2002. The oil produced from the Espoir East and West reservoir is processed, stored, and offloaded from the FPSO located between the two wellhead towers.

Around 110 personnel currently supporting the FPSO, including those onshore and on the vessel, will transition to Petrofac from former owner BW Offshore. The transition of people and operatorship is expected to complete before the end of July.

The contract will be managed from Petrofac’s technical hub in Aberdeen, using the experience in the mature and highly regulated UKCS market.

This latest award builds on other deals from 2022, including decommissioning in Mauritania for Tullow Oil, operations and maintenance for Tullow Oil in Ghana and the provision of offshore operations services for BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project, including an FPSO, in Mauritania and Senegal.

Andreas Sohmen-Pao’s BW Offshore has recently sold four FPSOs based in Africa. It offloaded its BW Opportunity FPSO in March, the FPSO BW Athena a month later, and the FPSO Espoir Ivoirien in June. Earlier this month it sold another Africa-based FPSO, the Sendje Berge. The only BW FPSO still working off the continent is the Abo which got its contract extended until July 31, 2023.
