Seacon’s bulker spree continues

It has been a quiet start  in the dry cargo sale and purchase market in the first eight days of the year. One notable deal has come to light however. One of China’s fastest growing owners, Seacon Shipping Group, has emerged as the taker of the China-built 73,700-dwt Clio (built 2005), since renamed to Harvest, a ship sold by Diana Shipping for $7.4m in November.

While Diana has sold seven panamax bulk carriers in the last 12 months, Seacon had an impressive purchasing spree in the same period, adding 12 similar sized bulkers.

Seacon reportedly ended the year signing shipbuilding contracts with CSSC-affiliated Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for up to eight 85,000 dwt bulkers.
