Helix secures Taiwanese wind farm work

Helix Energy Solutions’ marine contracting business unit, Helix Robotics Solutions, has secured a deal for the trenching of inter-array and export cables as part of a 640 MW wind farm offshore Taiwan.

Under the contract, Helix plans to mobilise its newly acquired T1400-1 jet trenching system in Singapore onboard the Siem Topaz before transiting to Taiwan for operations, with trenching and survey services expected to continue until late 2023. The 2010-built anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel was chartered from Norwegian offshore vessel player Siem Offshore.

Helix said the contract came from a leading renewables cable installation contractor. Subsea 7’s offshore wind specialist, Seaway 7, is in charge of cable laying activities at Taiwan’s Yunlin offshore wind farm that fits the capacity description. The company recently fixed Maersk Supply Service’s cable layer Maersk Connector, until the end of December 2025 to support its projects, including the 640 MW Yunlin. The project is being developed by Yunneng Wind Power, a subsidiary of Skyborn Renewables, formerly wpd Offshore.
